Wonderful tuscan city protagonist of many events in the history of the region, long rival of Florence and Lucca, naval power that arrived to trade in the Middle East, Pisa is famous worldwide for the architectural complex of Piazza del Duomo. Is here the best known symbol of the city: the leaning tower which is actually the bell tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, poised for centuries due to land subsidence. On the square, known as the Square of Miracles, there are also the baptistery and the monumental graveyard. All these buildings are indented right between World Heritage Site.
Another important center is represented by Piazza dei Cavalieri overlooked by the Palace of the Caravan and the Church of the Knights of St. Stephen, both made by Vasari. At the center of the square is a statue of Cosimo I de ‘Medici.
Pisa is crossed by the Arno river and along its banks are organized walking and cycling routes used by residents and tourists for sports and walks.
