The city of palio, as is known by foreigners, boasts a wealth of art, history and culture of exceptional level. Along the narrow alleys of the old town open workshops and modern shops, old inns and restaurants offering typical dishes of tuscan cuisine using ingredients from the surrounding countryside. Siena has preserved almost intact the ancient medieval urban structure that the whole world envies. The city continues its traditions for centuries with the same passion: the historic event of the Palio has always followed the same rituals. The competition includes an horses race in the sandy track created in Piazza del Campo, shell-shaped, under the imposing structure of the Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia.
Even the food is headed by the Sienese tradition, sweets like Ricciarelli, panforte, cavallucci but also dishes of venison accompanied by famous Chianti wines of the area are prepared following the recipes of the past.
